This is a piece of counseling to my dear youths of Adamawa State, with a serious concern to Adamawa North Senatorial District, with also a specific reference to Madagali/Michika Fed. Constituency and particular call to that of Michika Local Government.
The tragedy in my opinion, is that we all have to a large extent lost the script politically. This is so, because our participation in politics or governance so to say, is practically self-centered. Where our selfish interest comes first, followed by sentimental justifications for supporting an individual. Realistically, it is tragedian, devastating and unproductive embracing such kind or pattern of political participation. It is unfortunate that most of the youth even conceived politics to be defined and adopted as such.
The nucleus of political participation shall always be community based or more generally, society based. In this case, the society comes first as the ultimate interest in the spirit of collectivism.
Not to take much of your time reading this piece, let me go straight to the point.
I believe not too many of you will disagree with the fact that governance is everybody’s business, not an individual or a particular group’s business. Having made this clear, those in charge of public affairs in terms of holding offices are mere human beings like you and I that are just fortunate as influenced by one factor or the other, or combinations of some factors to have our collective mandate through a process to on our behalf control the state’s resource in a manner that benefits all of us.

In Adamawa as a state, after insecurity, one of our major problems which can even be considered as a factor contributing to the insecurity problem is the growing unemployment. I believe not too many of you would dispute this fact.
The major thing I want to draw our attention to in this piece, is discussing “Job Creation” as a means of tackling the economic problem of unemployment.
What is Job Creation? This is simply ensuring a secured environment for both local and foreign investments as well as the government itself. This made job creation different from job giving.
In this case, what our government has succeeded in doing to some extent is job giving.
As a Member State Assembly, Member Federal House of Representatives, a Senator or a Governor, if you give someone who is a graduate job with a government agency at the local, state or federal level, you have not created job, you have only given what if the system is corrupt free that person would have gotten on merit. As a governor, simply because you employ people into the state MDAs that doesn’t mean to have contributed in solving the problem of unemployment through the means of job creation but merely given the jobs that are already available. And is because we have all misconceived job giving for job creation, that is why we have not been able and if we continue this way, we would never be able to get that problem of unemployment solved.

What is the way out?

The way out is simple. It has two phases.
The first phase, without which the second would never surface, is for the people particularly the youth, to wake up to the reality that those in governance are not to choose what to do with the state’s resources independently, so that peoples’ yearnings can be prioritise and presented to the government by the people through the State Assembly or Civil Society Organizations and Labour Unions.
Secondly, the government must as a result of peoples’ insistence have the political will to do just that.
Therefore, we the good people of Michika Local Government, Madagali/Michika Fed. Constituency, Adamawa North Senatorial District and the State at large, have to wake up to reality and do the needful by redefining our pattern of participating in politics. The point is, let us be the ones to set agenda or goals for the government.
Within the context of Job Creation, all these elective offices as far as I am concern, since the 2019 elections, none of them has made an attempt to create job except in few cases of presenting bills for establishment of federal institutions which will never be enough to accommodate larger portion of the population and will certainly end up in job giving.
What they are to do, and they may not do such without us making it our demands, is to attract investments from within and outside for such is the tool that succeeded in tackling unemployment in most countries of the world, most especially the Asian countries in the recent times.
I therefore conclude, by saying let’s do the needful within the context of job creation for it is one of our major problems, that if solved our dear state will be a home to live for all of us.
Thank you.
