A WAKE UP CALL TO NANNM AND ALL NURSES AND MIDWIVES IN NIGERIA

It is with a great pleasure and utmost gratitude to God for making the Nursing profession a reality and making our founding fathers and mothers see the need to make the profession accepted worldwide, their labor will not be forgotten.
Nightingale’s dedication to service in season and out of season is so eye catching and soul touching that I am are proud to be called a Nurse.
A WAKE UP CALL TO NANNM AND ALL NURSES AND MIDWIVES IN NIGERIA.
No matter the huddle, the bankrolling, the impediment along the line to greatness in this profession, we shall all overcome one day and the rest shall be history.
We are little gods in white, look and see carefully that healing balm that you are, a dying patient believing that you have his life in your hands and is curiously lying down there peacefully, hopefully trusting that you won’t throw away his life but will guide and preserve it.
Good professionals are evident by good and reputable union. This union are saddled with the responsibility to care for it’s members welfare, standing in the gap for it’s members, addressing issues that concerns it’s members in all ramifications of life.
It is quite pathetic and pitiful that only 5% are making decisions and life policies for 100% of the total population even without proper consultation from those they claimed to be representing.
Cry to review the constitution to carry every Nurse along in everything since the unconsented deduction was cut across every Nurse and Midwife and not that few. Something is not just right that’s why the majority of Nurses are still crying for a better future that should be inclusive of all and not for a greedy few with the sweat of all.
Am wondering why this cry is still lingering or the cry of the Nurses that you claimed you are representing now don’t matter and are falling on deaf ears, and tempt me to ask “Now that we are wounded, who will tend to our wounds”?.
If this continues the AIMS and OBJECTIVE of NANNM have been defeated and as so the court should be the only place to seek for redress if possible.
Your members are having the most brain drain, most contact with COVID-19 cases but you cannot make press statements to better their lives and working condition.
All what you want is the Cut from that little salary that they struggle to meet an ends need with, Haram is Haram no two ways about it.
Nurses have become targets for kidnappers, maybe they saw the rich few that are making a living on the COD and they thought to themselves of how rich this professionals are. I think it’s high time the public know that Nurses don’t earn what they were expected to earn so as to be free from the gird of the kidnappers.

If you want to see how poor this profession is just take statistics of those that are retired and see how miserable life is treating them.
that’s why Nurses and Midwives needs to invest more even from the little penny that is left and have another stream of income before you become a bedwarmer in your retirement age.

Even as Nursing is a Noble profession we also need Noble leaders:

  • -Leaders who sincerely fear God and act in the interest of the Nurses than a selected few and themselves;
  • -Leaders that can stand their ground and never shake, even with the raging storm are still unmoved;
  • -Leaders that will not witch hunt their positive critics but will want to observe and take the good in it;
  • -Leaders that are truly for everybody and for nobody;
  • -Leaders that will serve and not to be served;
  • -Leaders that will have the serenity to remember who they are;
  • -Leaders that will truly mean and injury to one is an injury to all;
  • -Leaders that can place even their lives, jobs in the line for the sake of those they are representing;
  • -Leaders that will embrace truth and teach their followers by example (not calling a spade a shovel);
  • -Leaders that won’t place their ambition on the expense of those they are represented;
  • -Leaders that their political ambition will grow beyond the NANNM.

What’s the shame that we continue to wallow in pain, suffering and smiling, grumbling, murmuring in our hearts and letting them go away with it so easily and cheaply, and all we could think is exiting NANNM.
At this point exiting NANNM should not be the solution, let’s rise to the occasion fix NANNM even if it will take legal intervention, EFCC and ICPC involvement just to have a workable association that you will be proud of tomorrow.
May God bless all Nurses and Midwives;
Bless their families and safe them from contacting infection that may result due to their parents profession.
God watch over us and make us victors that pandemics will come and go but we shall still be standing strong and not be swept along with it.
Take responsibility now that you are, don’t wait until it’s late
Best regards and stay safe………… Phy Myth Gimba (Rt)
