Are Nurses Promiscuos
ARE NURSES PROMISCUOS??!!! The movie industry amongst others had in time past and presently played a die-hard role on the profession called Nursing, hearing about many things and watching what the Nollywood display and according to my little experience in the profession, the portrait of the profession by this body has reached an alarming yet uncurbed menace that has bartered the golden imagery of the noble profession called NURSING making all and sundry view the profession as one, of and for the prostitutes.
I then come up to ask this question from everyone and Nurses out there that: Are Nurses really promiscuous? While we ponder on this I am of the opinion we all know what being a prostitute or promiscuity means? PROMISCUITY according to the (English Mini Dictionary) simply means being promiscuous and promiscuous upon further elucidation means indiscriminate in choice of sexual partners.
Merriam Webster Dictionary says that being promiscuous means having many sexual partners that is not restricted to one sexual partner or few sexual partners. The Oxford dictionary defines a prostitute as a person, in particular a woman, who engages in sexual activity for payment. Going by the definitions above, I say with all certainty and conviction that Nurses are not promiscuous. Is it only Nurses who are promiscuous? After a thorough research about this topic of discourse, I found out that it is a crude generalization to say that nurses are promiscous; this is as a result of negative public perception owing to bad representation from the media (Nollywood).
It is worthy to state that sexuality is individual and personal with no affiliation to any profession, race, gender or religion. If not so, air hostesses and official secretaries should also be in the same category. The media does not represent the true nature of Nursing as obtainable and practiced in our Federal and State hospitals where educated and qualified professionals work but are only limited to private hospitals where ‘quacks’ (with no educational qualifications) are employed as nurses; this is where you can find a nurse flirting with a doctor or a patient relative.
Nurses are smart, intelligent, observant and well trained people who study hard and undergo rigorous hands-on training, to help individuals in the performance of those activities they would have performed unaided if they have the necessary skills, ability and will. On the other hand, while trying not to be on the defensive, there are bad eggs everywhere and in every profession, gender and race.
My point is, this is not only exclusive to Nursing and Nurses should not be seen as been promiscous ( infact that is a strong word going by the definition above). My message to my fellow colleagues out there is to be good ambassadors of the profession anywhere we find ourselves and to protect Nursing as you would, your name. Finally, my appeal goes the Nursing and Midwifery Council Of Nigeria (NMCM) and National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) to take action aiming to curb quackery as well as to restrict the movie industry from portraying the NURSING PROFESSION in bad light.
I would recomnend collaboration between the two bodies, regulation of the content of any movie which intends to portray Nursing in any form and sanction if the movie industry err by not adhering to agreed terms. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!! NURSING IS A NOBLE PROFESSION!!!
I AM A NURSE AND PROUD TO BE ONE!!! PROMISCUITY IS NOT IN RELATION TO THE PROFESSION BUT A PRODUCT OF NUTURE AND WHO OR WHAT THE INDIVIDUAL CHOOSE TO BE.!!! NURSING IS A PROFESSION AND NOT A VOCATION.!!! NURSES ARE ANGELS.!!! FINALLY, “NURSES ARE NOT PROMISCUOS”!!!
