Today, the 27th day of June 2022, the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) released a circular stating the approval and implementation of computer based test (CBT) for all her professional examinations starting with the Midwifery examination slated for September 13th-16th, 2022.

This decision was reached during the 58th General Meeting of the Board of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria held on 23rd-24th June.

According to the NMCN, this is in line with global best practices in promoting and maintaining excellence in Nursing education and practice.
The NMCN are prepared for this implementation as they have identified dedicated CBT Centres across the six geopolitical zones of the country where the examination will take place.
Also, there shall be sensitization on the CBT examination implementation strategies at the forthcoming training of the Heads of Nursing/Midwifery training institutions and their focal persons.
It is worthy of note that the CBT examinations will contain theory and objectives questions just as the pen and paper examination used to have.
What is your opinion about this new development? Yay or Nay? Kindly give reasons for your answer.

The introduction of CBT in the Nursing and Midwifery Council is a welcomed idea, but it should be implemented gradually when all the Universities and Colleges are well prepared to adopt the system. Possibly an ultimatum can be given (within a year or two year’s time) for the schools to be well equipped and ready for this. If this decision is rashly implemented it will affect the rate of success in the NMCN examinations
Nay
Meaning no
Not in support please 🥺
The Register,
Nursing and midwifery Council of Nigeria,
Sir/Ma,
May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon you and entire family. My suggestion on CBT exam. For Nursing and midwife student, especially for final year student, it’s a welcoming development, especially to meet up with global standard but most of their final year students are not expose to CBT Examination. Not: if hidelly this has been introduced to them right from year one, by now it will go a long way. Presently some of them have forbia to write CBT exam. Especially Council exams. has it own forbia, combine with fear of unknown. Sir, if you review these circular it will go a long way especially for this year council exams, more also this policy is good to introduced it to the newly admitted students so that can use to system, before their council exams.
Nay, I don’t think the new method of CBT isn’t the best option it because the exams required alot of writing and 99% of students can’t typed two pages within interval 2hours leading to massive failures in those conducted exams.
Kudus to Registrar/Secretary General NMCN and his Team for introduction of CBT in the upcoming September,
2022 professional exam. This is a welcome development that every RN, RM and students should proud of because it will encourage our student Nurses/Midwives to be knowledgeable about global system of digitalization. In addition it will help to eliminate any form of exam malpractice.
To me it is one of the most effective way of assessment.
