Getting Registered as RN in New Zealand
A Bachelor’s degree is at level 7 on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework (NZQF).
B. Sc., Post B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Nursing are usually comparable to level 7 on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework (NZQF).
NOTE: If you’ve got no post-registration experience in the least, you’re not eligible to use for registration. Minimum 2 years within the last 5 years (after registration)
English Language Requirements
You must be ready to exchange information with patients, colleagues, employers, and other health professionals in an efficient manner.
The Nursing Council approved English tests are the Occupational English Test (OET) and the International English Testing System (IELTS).
- IELTS score of overall and Individual 7
- OET B (minimum score of 350 for every band)

The Nursing Council will evaluate your request against the seven registration standards and make a selection with respect to your registration. You’ll be required to form notice for fitness for registration and to finish a criminal history check. Criminal history checks are valid for 6 months only. You are required to finish a world Criminal History Check for each country you’ve lived in for 12 months or more over the last 10 years. You may be required to finish a Competence Assessment Program (CAP) before registration. Many nurses who are registered overseas will get to successfully complete a Competency Assessment Programme (CAP) before they’re going to be granted New Zealand registration. The CAP prepares overseas RNs for the registered nurse role and healthcare context of New Zealand, which is different from several other countries Overseas nurses are required to finish a program before registration in New Zealand. CAPs are generally six to 12 weeks long and include theory and clinical components. Applicants are given two years from the date of notification to start a CAP. Nurses having successfully completed a competence assessment program are said to possess the Nursing Council of New Zealand (“Council”)’s competencies for his or her scope of practice. They will then apply for registration as nurses with the NCNZ.

Immediately you’re registered, you’ll be required to apply for an Annual Practicing Certificate. This qualifies you to work as a nurse in New Zealand.
