I BECAME A NURSE BY MISTAKE!!!
SOCIETY has proven to have a long-lasting influence on the career choices we make. The neighbour’s son that just gained admission to study medicine, the cousin that just obtained access to study mechanical engineering, or is it that friend at church who is bound to move to the higher institution to study aeronautics.
All these leaves a mark of haste in our hearts especially when the process seems tough and we don’t seem to be getting headway to study a course of choice. Perhaps, maybe the issue is the fact that we were not taught or guided to be able to arrive at choosing a career path, hence, the euphoric desire to become a doctor, an engineer, a lawyer and a few more disciplines (besides, these professions are the ones we all see as ways to success).

Life, as its always full of surprises then caught us unaware, we are suddenly at the valley of decision. Left to choose a path at the NOW!!! Medicine and Surgery, so was my choice as much as any other student, till JAMB jammed and Post-UTME showed us “LIFE”. SMILES.
If I can’t sleep, at least I can shut my eyelids!
“if they won’t give me Medicine and Surgery, I can at least do something else in the same direction. NURSING, the saving grace, there comes the consolation, the relief, the escape from the dilemma that we were faced with.
Little did we know that we all need conviction to persevere with the choices we make, we came into Nursing only to discover that it’s not rosy. So many challenges that are “ancient”, decades passed haven’t even taken away the problems, the same problem then the same problem now.
However, in the midst of all the glaring issues, we must understand that all Men have a path and there is a supreme being that guides us into those paths, we may have found ourselves in this profession as a victim of circumstance, but then we are here already.
We are now a part of a body that is divided, trampled upon, disrespected and disregarded, in desperate need of Men and Women willing to restore it back to the original state. This profession, which we have now grown to accept over the years (filled with many hurdles) needs us to make it better for those coming behind us. The coming generation shouldn’t have to say, “I AM A NURSE BY MISTAKE”, this profession can become one people would be proud to choose and associate with.
The question is, ARE YOU THE ONE NURSING HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR?
OR YOU ARE JUST ANOTHER WANDERER WHO MEANDERED into THIS NOBLE PROFESSION??
