We have learned about self-care being nurses since the time we entered the profession as students. Self-care is one the basic concept among all theories in nursing. Take it as a patient care or diagnosing a patient self-care is always been used as a common term.
Let us take it vice versa being health care providers, are we taking self-care????
My question to all those who are nurses working tirelessly for health service and also for their own family. I am pretty sure you all will agree how we care for ourselves almost negligibly.
End of internship chronicles; last phase of internship.
Nurses have to embrace the term “SELF-CARE” where they have to take care of themselves and in a broader prospect applying it to themselves by taking care of self in terms of adequate rest, sleep, adequate and balanced diet etc.
In the midst of giving care to patients and taking care of family many a times nurses ignores their own care. Let us not take Self-care as physical care here, take it as holistic care.
It is really important to be healthy to carry out your work effectively and efficiently. A nurse who is healthy inside out can provide the service competently and more efficiently. To have quality care it is necessary for our nurses to be healthy in every way physically, mentally, emotionally and socially to stand out in their performance among all.
A sound mind and body is the key to quality work that is proven. When we talk about the competent nurses on many occasions we see lack of competency and the reason if we find out will be due to lack of a healthy mind or body which is caused due to “selfless care of others and no self-care”. The ambition the zeal the passion which is the most required element in all of us is missing because we are held back by balancing things forgetting self-care in terms of professional growth and development, our own self space is gone where we can learn new thing where we get some time for self this is self-care which every nurse should take care of if we want to bring out change in our professional identity or self-identity.
Self-care – Care of self: Betterly said nurses have all capacity and knowledge to keep everyone upright under her care so if the time allows she will have that for herself.
Nurses need to be more self-determined to get that time where she can bloom in the possible way she wants to. Not because she is responsible for herself but because she/he is responsible for others life under her/his care. The shine of your work will always shine only if little self-care is taken.
I want to pen down with-
I am a Nurse! What is your superpower?
