NANNNA GOODWILL MESSAGE At the Ceremony by Dr. Ngozi Mbibi, RN
On behalf of “the National Association of Nigerian Nurses in North America (NANNNA), we say a big congratulations to Nursing Now Nigeria Technical Team, All the Nursing Leaders in the house and to all Nigerian Nurses all over the world for this wonderful endeavor of “Raising the profile and status of Nursing in Nigeria.” You have proven that anything is possible with good leadership.
Today, most of you have joined this wonderful movement to make a difference in our nursing profession. We applaud you for this. We are very excited to see this unity. Together, we can make a difference in our community, the nursing profession and our lives.
This unifying voice underscores what NANNNA stands for (Uniting all Nigerian Nurses in North America for the improvement of health and well-being of Nigerians at home and abroad and by serving as a passionate voice on critical health issues, and as a medium of exchange of information on health and nursing issues both in Nigeria and in North America).
One of the core missions of NANNNA is to create opportunity for collaboration in the health care community locally and internationally to improve the quality of health of Nigerians through Nursing.
The increasing complexity of our health care environment and social economic issues in the world today require sharing best practices through collaboration to effect a change. Nurses must bring trusted global voices to express their concerns and to establish significant and effective global platform for their advocacy.
Nurses must be at the table during policy making. One of our saying in NANNNA is, “if you are not at the table, you will be in the menu.” Nurses in Nigeria have been in the menu for years and is now time to be at the table.
As such, “Nursing Now Nigeria” is timely.
NANNNA is strongly behind this movement and will help to ensure that,
- Nigerian Nurses are full partners with other health professionals in redesigning health care policy and practice.
- Federal and state government to provide basic infrastructure and conducive environment for nursing education and practice.
- Improve public perception of nursing
However, if we are to achieve above, and better health for our people, it will be through collaborations and commitment to sound nursing and health policies. This cannot be done in isolation.
The need for us to come together and collaborate is greater than ever before. Together, we can move mountains. We must expand this program for us to excel as a profession in Nigeria.
We encourage everyone to support this endeavor and the quest to achieve high quality care through NURSING.
Again, congratulations and thank you –
What exactly is the Nursing Now project?
Nursing Now is a three-year global campaign run in collaboration with the International Council of Nurses and the World Health Organization.
Nursing Now is a program of the Burdett Trust for Nursing run by a Campaign Board made up of nurses and non-nurses from 16 different countries.
Nurses are at the heart of most health teams, playing a crucial role in health promotion, disease prevention and treatment. As the health professionals who are closest to the community, we have a particular role in developing new models of community-based care and supporting local efforts to promote health and prevent disease.
Nursing Now is based on the findings of the Triple Impact report which concluded that improving health globally, empowering nurses would contribute to improved gender equality – as the vast majority of nurses are still women – and build stronger economies.
In other words, Nursing Now Campaign has created a powerful platform that Nurses can leverage on to make their voices heard and step up to their deserved positions in the Health sector and the entire African community at large.
