Press Release By National President Of Student’s Association Of Nigeria

This communique is released based on the unanimous agreement by all the Tertiary Students’ Association National Presidents. Under the umbrella, National Presidents of Students’ Associations of Nigeria (NAPSAN) agreed to the contents of this communique in a recent meeting held by the body. This association aims
to cater to the unique needs of Nigerian Students.

The press statement hopes to address the ongoing strike embarked on by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) and Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU). We perceive the strike to be highly disturbing, and deleterious to the good educational system in Nigeria.

This noble Association humbly appeals to the relevant authorities to amicably settle all disagreements with the above mentioned unions, so that our schools reopen as soon as possible. It is worthy of note, that Students of Tertiary Institutions have all been discouraged, disorganized, and dismantled in the pursuit of Education in Nigeria.

There is a wise saying that “Time is an irreversible asset”. This Association appeals to us to consider that Students of Tertiary Institutions’ time has been wasted for too long. Many students are losing Interest in Education as many of them have already dropped out due to the incessant strikes embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Academic Staff Union of
Polytechnics (ASUP), Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) and Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU)

We unanimously call on the Federal Government and the Unions to please consider the plight of Nigerian Students who are wasting their precious time at home. The Nigerian Students have been protesting to be returned to classes to
round off their various degrees but to no avail.

This call to the FG and leadership of ASUU, ASUP, COEASU, NASU, SSANU
is to humbly appeal to them, to put a halt to this lingering strike that is capable
of crippling and throwing the Educational System into total disarray.
