In other to further improve the quality of education of Nurses and Midwives in Nigeria, the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (N&MCN) has sought to strengthen and develop support for Nursing and Midwifery Students and interns learning in the clinical environment. Student’s experiences in practice form a significant part of their acquisition of professional knowledge, skills, competencies and attitudes, and it is imperative that this environment offers an excellent learning culture.
This requires Preceptors who are knowledgeable and skilled not only in their clinical practice, but also in facilitating learning and in undertaking assessments.
In view of the above and many other objectives towards professional growth and reforms, N&MCN has developed and validated a manual in collaboration with Women for Health Funded by UKaid for the training of Master Preceptors across the 6 geopolitical zones of Nigeria States, one representative from each state include FCT to train Preceptors from each zone. The first training took place in June 2019 at Lagos last year and the refresher training is on going at Abuja FCT. between 21 and 26th September 2020. This will be proceeded by Zonal trainings across all the zones starting with North Central.

It is imperative all Nurses embraces this giant stride by Nursing & Midwifery Council of Nigeria and give it all support it requires to reposition Nursing practices in Nigeria. We are all stakeholders in this agenda and every Nurse should assume ownership of this excellent program as it’s what’s obtainable in developed and other developing Nations of the world.
