Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria

INDEXING

This entails entering your data into the NMCN database to ensure that you meet the approved entry requirements to enroll in the various Nursing programs.

It includes applications for basic indexing, foreign-trained basic indexing, post-basic indexing, refresher indexing, tracking your application, making payment, updating disapproved applications, and so on. This is usually done at the institution level.

EXAMINATION

This deals with registration and application for the professional qualifying examination to register and practice as a registered nurse in Nigeria. You can also make payment for your examination and register for resits here as well, this is usually done by the institution.

REGISTRATION

This service is for the registration of newly qualified Nurses, here, you can register, fill in your details, upload your picture and make payment to register and get your practicing license as a registered nurse in Nigeria as well as track your application status.

This service is open to General Nurses, Midwives, seventeen (17) Post Basic Nursing Programmes, and Foreign Trained Nurses who have met the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria’s requirements for registration.

BASIC REGISTRATION

Basic Registration is for Nurses/Midwives who have completed their General Nursing or Basic Midwifery Education and were successful in the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria Final Professional Qualifying Examination and Foreign Trained Nurses who have met the Councils requirement for registration.

This is for these categories of Nurses;

  • General Nurses
  • Midwives

You will have to pay a non-refundable fee of N42,967.00 to the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria through REMITA in any bank.

For late registration which is applicable after 90 days of the release of the result, you will pay a penalty fee of:
N77, 500.00 – Per school
N16, 250.00
Per individual

POST BASIC REGISTRATION

This is for Qualified applicants who have completed their Basic Nursing/Midwifery training and have successfully gone through an approved Post Basic Nursing specialty for the following categories of Nurses;

  • Mental Health Nurses
  • Public Health Nurses
  • Public Health Nurse Educator
  • Nurse Educators
  • Midwife Educators
  • Nurse Administrators
  • Orthopedic Nurses
  • Nurse Anaesthetists
  • Perioperative Nurses
  • Ophthalmic Nurses
  • Accident and Emergency Nurses
  • Pediatric Nurses
  • Cardio-thoracic Nurses
  • Burns and Plastic Nurses
  • Occupational Health Nurses
  • Ear, Nose, and throat Nurses
  • Intensive Care Nurses

You can avail yourself of this service at a non-refundable fee of N61, 092.00 for Midwives/ Psychiatric Nurses and N44, 500 for other Post Basic Nurses into the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria through REMITA in any bank.

For late registration which is applicable after 90 days of the release of the result, you will pay a penalty fee of:
N77, 500.00 – Per school
N16, 0250.00 – Per individual

RENEWAL OF LICENSE

You can avail yourself of this service if your license has expired after 3 years of issuance, you can apply to renew your license at a fee of Thirteen thousand one hundred and twenty-five naira (N13,125) only for three years with a penalty of Six thousand five hundred and sixty-two naira(N6,562) for each year of default. Kindly note that these fees are subjected to periodic review.

It is also required that you have undergone a Mandatory Continuing Professional Development Programme (MCPDP) before you can renew your license.

“This is to establish an electronic database of all records of Nurses and Midwives registered in Nigeria and to facilitate the commencement of online renewal of license” applicable for all categories of Nurses/Midwives whether actively in service or retired, within the country or outside the country.

RE-ISSUANCE OF LOST LICENCE

You can apply for re-issuance of your license if you lost it, at a chargeable fee of N10,937 only on the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria’s platform through REMITA.

FOREIGN TRAINED NURSE’S REGISTRATION

Foreign Trained Nurses must register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) and obtain a license to practice before their professional practice in Nigeria. This process may take a minimum of six (6) months and a maximum of eighteen (18) months.
