This is a honest advice, that ordinarily shouldn’t raise any debate.
Unfortunately, I had a similar experience in my former place of employment, it eventually led my retirement, but I was satisfied I fought the system.
One area of disagreement I always have with the elder Nurses, is the issue of A NURSE CAN WORK ANYWHERE, EVEN AFTER TAKEN ON SPECIALIZATION.
MY OWN CASE Experience.
I am a licensed A&E Nurse working @ the Accident and Emergency department of a federal government hospital.
I had an argument of poor administration with my CMD one evening duty, and the next day I got a letter from my HOD(N) that he was directed to post me out of the department to an Orthopaedic ward.
I replied that I’m licensed to practice resuscitation ( A&E) and not definitive care, orthopedics.
More so then, I was the state NANNM chairman. I reminded the HOD Nursing, that the nursing profession attained professional status by the virtues of the IAP award of 1981, where it states, that the nursing profession is subject to no directive by any other profession ( professional sui generis)….

Therefore his letter of been directed to post me, must have emanated from the CMD, and by virtue of the award, the CMD, a medical doctor, have no capacity to direct me a Nurse on posting.
The hospital management wrote to the nmcn, requiring clarifications as to what is required to post a specialist Nurse outside his or her area of specialization?
The reply came thus, first paragraph.
1) it is not the responsilities of the CMD to post a Nurse
2) A specialized Nurse can be moved outside his or her area of specialization on the following grounds.
- gross incompetent in the area of specialization
- in mass casualties, where every hands irrespective of specialty is needed to stabilize the situation, and the moment the stabilization is achieved, all those concerned moved back to their various areas
- on medical ground, where the Nurse concerned can no longer function in the area of specialty
- where the Nurse concerned is going to be the Administrative head of the new department he or she is being posted to.
In all these criteria, non applies to me, therefore the hospital management abandoned the case. And I remained @ the A & E department.
This happened around December 2004. Even the management still holds the grudge against me.
The opportunity to do away with my services came in the 2006 public service reform, when some, departments were outsourced, particularly grade level 01 to 03.
The management of the hospital, took advantage of it, to include some of us they considered as uncompromising in our attitude to their administrative style and included our names in the list.
Though as the chairman of NANNM in my state, I had opportunity to fight and remained @ work, I told myself, it is not necessary, since I’m entitled to my pension.
had already worked for 17 years.
I gladly took my letter of retirement, and have since returned to my private business.
I want to appeal to our NURSELEADERS to please, rethink the issue of a Nurse can work anywhere after specialization.
A specialized medical surgeon would NEVER go and practice medicine no matter the shortage of physicians.
We Nurses, particularly our senior colleagues are making nonsense of nursing specialization by this abnormal acceptance that a Nurse can work anywhere, even after specialization.
